Why did you choose Swaab?
I chose Swaab because they offered an opportunity for a specialised property graduate. I applied because I wanted to work in property law and I believed that this role would give me an opportunity to learn and develop my skills as a property lawyer and become specialised in property law in the future. Being a mid-tier firm, I also believed that Swaab would give me an opportunity to engage in a diverse range of matters and clients, which would broaden my skillset as a lawyer.
What was the Swaab selection process like?
I went through two rounds of interviews and attended a lunch with some Swaab employees and the other candidates. I enjoyed the lunch event in particular because it gave me the opportunity to learn more about the firm and the people that worked there, and having the opportunity to bond and build rapport with the existing Swaab employees gave me comfort that the people at Swaab would be great people to work alongside and affirmed my desire to join the firm.
What has been your experience to date?
Since joining Swaab, I have enjoyed my experience and liken it to a sports highlight reel, and I find it difficult to think of anything that says otherwise. I work in a great team who are always supportive of me and that I all get along with. I have also enjoyed the social events at Swaab, such as the firm shared lunch (the food was delicious), trivia night (great questions and fun vibes) and the corporate soccer world cup (tiring but exhilarating), just to name a few, where I have bonded and made some great friends within the firm as a result.
How would you describe the Swaab culture?
One of the Swaab values is ‘generosity of spirit’ and since I have started working here, I have witnessed this value being shown first-hand through my fellow Swaabies. Everyone is nothing short of amazing, always finding the time to help one another even if they are busy themselves and always providing moral and emotional support when times are tough. The fact that I get to interact with my friends and colleagues at work is the main thing that motivates me to get out of bed every morning, even in this freezing cold weather, to go to work.
Given the competitive nature of the market, do you see the possibility of a long term career at Swaab?
I am loving the work that I am doing in the property team and I am getting ample opportunities to learn and develop my skills in this area of law, whilst also being entrusted with matters of my own to further help me grow as a property lawyer, hence I definitely believe I can have a long-term career at Swaab.
