We embrace generosity of spirit and encourage charity fundraising ideas and initiatives across the Firm.  The partners match charity donations dollar for dollar.  We also have a close alliance with particular charities, which we support both financially and non-financially. These charities include Lifeline, Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation, the Leukaemia Foundation and the Breast Cancer Network of Australia.
We have a calendar of charity events that we participate in each year as part of our commitment to giving back to the community, fundraisers include Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave, Red Nose Day, Jeans for Genes and Pink Ribbon Day. 
We have partnered with Corporate Citizen for workplace giving, enabling our employees to donate to their chosen charity from their pre-tax pay.

We understand that all work and no play makes us all a little dull!  We like to have fun and we host regular social events including Trivia Night, Family Day, end of year party, end of financial year party, Melbourne Cup Luncheon, quarterly shared lunches and weekly Friday night drinks.  We also welcome new starters and celebrate special occasions with morning teas.

We believe in our staff being equipped with the right tools to be able to do their jobs to the best of their ability. We encourage our staff to share knowledge that will further enhance innovation and efficiency.


We like nothing more than recognising our staff for the great jobs they are doing. We celebrate "Swaabiversarys" which are our way of saying "thank you" and recognising our employees' contribution for each year of service with the firm.  Gifts include flowers or wine, with a card, and for service milestones at 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, 15 years etc. our employees receive a special gift, which is usually a gift voucher of their choice.


We encourage all of our people to embrace lifelong learning.  We have a firm-wide budget for seminar and conference attendance and we encourage our staff to utilise external learning opportunities to enhance their skills. 
We also provide a structured in-house learning and development program.  Our Business Excellence Seminars are a forum to discuss current issues in the law with peers.  Our learning and development program also includes seminars on business skills, practice management, compliance and technology.  Most of our in-house seminars are designed to count towards MCLE requirements.
As part of our commitment to our people to encourage them to be the best that they can be, we may be able to provide financial assistance for approved courses of formal study; for example, postgraduate qualifications or specialist courses relevant to their role.  We also provide paid study leave and exam leave for approved courses. 

Mind, Body and Spirit – Wellbeing program

Swaab encourages our employees to have a balanced life, believing that this contributes to their capacity and capability in the workplace as well as their wellbeing in general. Our most recent in-house mindfulness meditation program "Thrive" was an 8 week course provided by Inner Performance Management. 
We also run free seminars on "health and wellbeing" as part of our "lunch and learn" series.  A previous lunch and learn was on spinal heath in the workplace.

salary continuance Insurance

We understand there are more important things in life than work.  Accidents and illnesses happen and when they do, the last thing you want is the added pressure of worrying about supporting yourself and your family on a rainy day.  That's why we provide insurance for all of our people through our group salary continuance insurance.  Our salary continuance insurance provides you with a monthly income if you are totally or partially disabled due to illness or injury and are unable to work. 

legal fee assistance

We provide a $750 per annum allowance for personal legal work (capped at 3 years' service).  This allowance can be used for the purchase or sale of an employee's principal residence, estate planning for an employee and/or their partner, family law or other personal legal services.  We also provide reduced fee packages for wills and estate planning.

About the role
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and proactive Legal Secretary to provide support to one Partner, one Senior Associate, one Associate and one Solicitor in our well respected Litigation practice group. They have a thriving practice which keeps them very busy and we are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and client focussed Legal Secretary to help support them. This role will see you providing much valued support in the following ways:
  • Drafting correspondence and court documents
  • Preparing briefs to Counsel
  • End of month billing
  • Opening/closing files
  • Dictaphone typing
  • Diary management and organising meetings
  • Liaising with clients and internal departments
  • Assist in marketing activities, such as preparation and typing of documents, presentations, etc.
  • Coordinating travel, conferences and seminar arrangements

Skills & Experience
To be suitable for the role, you must be a strong administrator with at least 3 years' recent experience in Litigation. Experience in a litigation practice is essential to ensure this busy Litigation practice continues to run smoothly and efficiently. The following describes your strengths and attributes:
  • Positive, proactive and motivated nature
  • Pride in service delivery with a can do attitude
  • Exceptionally organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines whilst being calm under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Confidence and good judgement liaising with clients
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work in an ever changing environment
  • MS office suite experience at an intermediate level
Experience in Affinity and File Site Document Management would be highly regarded but not essential.
